Ken Halbur, Jr.
I have four sisters and I am the second oldest. All four of my sisters are married and have children. I have eight nieces and three nephews. I was born on the east side of Des Moines and a graduate of East High School. My home parish is SS John & Paul’s church in Altoona.
I am in my third year of theology at the University of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, IL which is a northern suburb of Chicago. This means that I will be ordained a deacon in June of 2008 and God willing, I will be ordained a priest for the Des Moines Diocese in June of 2009.
The seminary is not a life sentence, I have always said in my vocation talks and to everyone who asks, I can only promise that I will finish one year at a time. I will not leave in the middle of the school year. You do not have to be sure that you want to be a priest when you enter the seminary, just an openness to find out if God is calling you to the priesthood. |
